"Almost everyone is influenced daily by some type of group, and it can be justifiably argued that we truly become human through our interactions in groups." -Samuel Gladding-
Students at Lake Windward Elementary have the opportunity to participate in small groups. A small
group experience can enhance the development of a student’s self-confidence, self-discipline, study skills, ability to cope, and ability to interact positively with others.
Each group of 4 to 6 students will meet with the counselor for approximately 30 minutes weekly for 6 to 8 weeks. Groups are scheduled at the same time of the day each week when the teacher sees that it is best for that student to miss. Students are responsible for making up all work missed from their classes. The meeting will include discussion and activities. Students may be referred by a parent or teacher. Since these choices include subjects of a more personal nature, parental permission will be required. Students may participate
in one group per semester.
Small Groups Offered at Lake Windward:
-Stay Cool/Anger Managment: This group will focus on
identifying stressors in your life and learning how to cope with stress and
anger.
-Loss and Grief: This group helps students cope with a
serious illness in the family or the death of a loved one.
-Friendship: This group focuses on making, being, and
keeping friends.
-Study Skills/Work Habits: This group focuses on improving
